Interview with Due West

CL: I’m Christian Lamitschka and today I present you Due West. Welcome to the show you guys.

DW: Thank you. Glad to be here and thanks for having us.

CL: Could you please introduce yourself and our viewers who might be hearing of you for the first time.

DW: I’m Tim Gates from Utah; I’m Matt Lopez from Wyoming; I’m Brad Hull from Arizona.

CL: You guys have a new album “Forget The Miles” on the market. Folks who have an idea about what we are talking about that’s the album you can buy everywhere, on Amazon, on your website and wherever you find the store. Let’s talk about the music. What kind of music is on the album?

DW: Country music! Five of the six songs we all wrote together or separately and they are song that been really important to us. We finally get to put them out on a CD. We’re a three-part harmony, like Alabama, Diamond Rio, and so on.

CL: Let’s see if you all three have the same personal favorite on the album.

DW: (Brad) My personal favorite is the new single, which is “When The Smoke Clears”. I love that song, it’s got a haunting melody and a beautiful production and the harmonies are really cool on that song. It has a great message.

CL: What’s the story behind it?

DW: The song is about somebody is faced with an opportunity to make a bad decision and it kind of goes thru what can happen if that bad decision was made. It was written by Mat Lopez here and his friend Don Rollins; it’s just a beautiful piece.

CL: What is yours, the same one or another?

DW: (Tim) Mine is probably “Country Music Made A Man Out Of Me”, it’s probably one of the most cleverly written songs in Nashville. A friend of mine over here, Tim Gates Wrote it and if you listen to that song, it’s got 21 classic country titles that are all used as a sentence. It’s telling a story using those titles about how country made a man out of him.

CL: Wow, yes, and yours?

DW: (Matt) I’m a man too, (laughing) because of country music. I would say “When The Smoke Clears” is also my favorite too, exactly what Brad says, it has a good message, it’s a Waltz, a country song and it’s heavy.

CL: What can country fans expect to see if they see one of your shows.

DW: High energy, lots of interaction with the crowd; we like to involve everybody and we all have big party and a good time and relate to our fans. Make them feel comfortable. We always feel if performers are comfortable on stage, the audience is comfortable. If performers are nervous, shaky, it makes everybody feel nervous and shaky.

CL: So probably all country fans like to know, are you still available, or have a girlfriend or anything?

DW: (Brad) I just got married last week as a matter of fact.
